THE colours of India and the architecture of Italy are some of the inspirations behind Paris-born Christine Maudy’s paintings.

The artist has trekked the globe in the past 20 years and draws on her experiences to create colourful abstract canvases. Her new exhibition, A World Sans Frontieres, not only represents her last 10 years of work, but also her “think local, act global” philosophy.

The artist has trekked the globe in the past 20 years and draws on her experiences to create colourful abstract canvases. Her new exhibition, A World Sans Frontieres, not only represents her last 10 years of work, but also her “think local, act global” philosophy.

“Today we need to look at the big picture — you don’t talk about your country or what’s happening in your backyard. It’s what’s happening for the planet,” Maudy says. “In some of the paintings I focus on the whole impression left by a city, and others I will focus on details such as their calligraphy.”

Maudy began her working life as a fashion designer in Paris and moved to Australia to focus on her art. What she loves most is seeing her work “come alive in front of an audience”.

“It can appeal to anyone, to people who love not only travelling, but who love experience and art . . . It’s like a love story — you see a painting and you want it on your wall and it could bring change to your life.”

A book, Christine Maudy Retrospective Catalogue, will be launched at tonight’s opening.

SEE A World Sans Frontieres, Alliance Francaise, West End, until May 30.

28th February 2011

OPENING night for the Three Women No Frontiers exhibition at Noosa Regional Gallery on 18 March 2011 from 6 to 8pm will serve a dual-purpose.

Not only will it officially launch the fascinating exhibition from Christine Maudy and her two daughters, it will also celebrate 10 years of artistic excellence from this international visual artist, since her first solo at the Noosa Regional Gallery in 2001.

Focussing on the concept of frontiers through life and artistic expression, Three Women NoFrontiers will present three perceptions of a shared world and frontiers.

Community Policy and Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the exciting exhibition is the first time Christine has collaborated with her two daughters.

“The exhibition will look at how the careers of three women have been influenced by their joint experiences, their travels, and their individual world views,” she said.

“Through painting, photography, song, music and moving image the exhibition will reveal how one woman became two and then three in the artistic world and praises the life affirming experience of multi-cultural exposure.” MORE…

FOR a mother and her two daughters to jointly stage an art exhibition, there has to be some motive.

For French-born, Sunshine Coast-based painter Christine Maudy, the many benefits of travel form the inspirational focus of a joint undertaking with children Pauline and Pamela.

“The exhibition was really coming from travelling and being confronted by new cultures and getting very interested in new places and meeting new people,” the former Paris fashion designer explains. “I think travel is a wonderful experience and it really changes people. MORE…
