Pauline Maudy was born in Paris, France, on the 2nd of June 1982 of a French mother and Spanish-Moroccan-French father. After travelling extensively all around the world searching for a new home, she landed in Australia in 1995, where she completed a Drama degree at QUT. She enjoys a dual citizenship French & Australian. She works in film, theatre, events coordinating, but also as a language teacher and as a performer.

Pauline has been singing since she could talk. Her first official public performance on stage was in Senegal at the age of five in front of an audience of 500. Since then she has sung in a variety of places and a variety of styles, including classical, musical theatre, as a choir soloist, jazz, rock, soul, funk, and Rhythm & Blues.

Pauline has been formally trained in classical and in contemporary singing. She is also a trained actor and has done a lot of voice training within that context. She has also attended ongoing training with companies such as Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre Company, which involve a certain amount of voice work. She is currently undertaking Jazz training to maintain her voice at an optimum performance level. She is constantly involved in various musical partnerships to expand her horizons. People she has collaborated with include French hip hop artist Virgil Carpentier, as well as accomplished composer Daniel Fournier.

In 2003, Pauline launched the Malika Rêve project to satisfy her thirst for jazz and funk improvisation. The Malika Rêve project consisted in structured and free vocal improvisation in French and English. Pauline was accompanied by guest musicians (including jazz guitarist Charlie Deutsch) and a DJ providing house jazz tracks. They aimed at creating one-off tacks for the audience to enjoy. Malika Rêve performed at Jorge on George St, Brisbane.

She started 2004 with a jazz showcase entitled “Amour and Sleepless Night” at the Metro Arts, theatre, Brisbane(13th of February 2004) before starting the Thomas Hickie/Redfern Online Music Project. The project includes creating an information base on the web about the events that took place in Redfern, Sydney in February 2004 in order to create awareness. It also aims at creating a space for artistic expression on indigenous issues in Australia today, as well as providing support for the family of Thomas Hickie.

Pauline believes her role as an artist is not only to create and perform music that is pleasant to the ear, but more importantly to make the most of her freedom of expression for those who can’t be heard. In her singing, she strives to share her culture (she sings in her French mother-tongue as well as in English), her performance style, her view of the world and her passion for life.

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.” Albert Einstein
